Can You Permanently Disable Auto Start-Stop?

  • Start-Stop technology goes by many names including auto stop, auto start-stop, ESS, and idle stop & go (ISG), depending on vehicle manufacturer.
  • The auto manufacturers did not provide their customers a way to permanently disable the auto start-stop technology but did provide a temporary method.
  • To permanently disable the auto start-stop tech in a vehicle, an aftermarket device, like the Autostop Eliminator, is required.

Stop-Start, or Autostop, or ESS, or Idle Stop & Go is a system on a majority of modern cars which cuts the engine off when the car is stationary in order to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. In hybrid vehicles, this system may shut down the combustion engine when the car is cruising at low throttle loads and when descending gradients, as well as decelerating from higher speeds. The engine starts up again when the brake is released, the clutch is engaged or when the driver begins to move and accelerate again.

Unfortunately, many consumers are not a fan of this function– it offers minimal fuel savings and forces consumers to turn off the function repeatedly, every time they turn their ignition switch on, if they do not want this feature.

Can You Disable Start-Stop Technology?

While you can disable this feature, no car brand allows you to permanently disable it. For temporary disablement, click the “A Off” button next to your vehicle’s gear shifter to turn off Autostop. Keep in mind however, that you will not be able to permanently fix this problem, as the next time you turn on your ignition switch, Start-Stop will automatically turn on again

Can Autostop Be Turned Off Permanently?

As stated before, no automotive brand enables consumers to permanently turn off Autostop. However, it can be temporarily disabled by clicking the “disable” or “off” button. Besides this option, Start-Stop has been forced on consumers by automotive companies, who offer no way to permanently disable this function.

Is Start-Stop Technology Bad For an Engine?

The rumors that Start-Stop technology is bad for engines are not baseless– in the 1980’s and 90’s, Autostop technology inflicted major wear and tear on car’s engines. While technology has improved significantly since then, there is still no significant evidence that Autostop harms or benefits the engine. Regardless, this functionality is forced upon consumers with little to no fuel savings in real world situations.

Can You Permanently Disable Autostop on a Ford f150?

I’m sure this is starting to sound like a broken record, but no auto brand enables permanently stopping or disabling Autostop. Consumers are forced to either remember to turn off this feature every single time they turn on their vehicle, or keep it on and allow the engine to cut at every red light.

Hope is not lost, though. The Autostop Eliminator is an easy-to-install device which solves the Start-Stop problem instantly. All you need to do is plug it in.

Autostop Eliminator works by electronically informing the vehicle to turn the Start-Stop feature off and keep it off, without making any changes to the computer system on your vehicle. For example, on a F150, the device would electronically communicate with the truck, so that you’d never have to manually disable the Autostop every time you start your car ever again– unless you want to. The Ford Autostop feature (sometimes called the engine Start-Stop or ESS feature) can easily be reactivated by the simple press of a button, if you want the function again. This amazing device allows you complete control over your vehicle– YOU decide when and where your engine shuts off.

  • Auto-Stop feature, there is no benefit to this feature, this is being forced on to the consumer and could potentially cause damage to the starter. The so-called gas savings would never cover the cost of new starter and labor to have it installed. This is more government B S that pure common sense should tell you this needs to stop. Manufactures should come up with or know how to fix this if the customer wants to bypass this AUTO STOP feature.
