What is Auto Start-Stop Technology?
Auto start-stop technology, also referred to as auto stop or ESS, is engineered to conserve fuel and minimize emissions by temporarily shutting off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and idling. Typically engaged at traffic lights or in heavy traffic, the auto start stop system restarts the engine upon releasing the brake pedal or pressing the accelerator. Despite its eco-friendly benefits, some Lincoln Aviator drivers may find the brief engine shutdown and restart disruptive, along with associated noise, vibration, and wear on the starting system.
